Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah is the 18th installment in the Godzilla series of films. The movie was released theatrically in Japan on December 14, 1991. It was directed by Kazuki Omori and produced by Shôgo Tomiyama. The special effects were provided by Koichi Kawakita and the original score was composed by Akira Ifukube. This was the first film score Ifukube had written since 1978 and also one of the last he ever composed.
In conjunction with the release of the film in 1991, Ifukube took various cues from the score and assembled a seven-movement concert suite. With its subtitle Symphonic Fantasia, some consider this work to be a direct addition to the composer's previous Symphonic Fantasias 1, 2 and 3.
