Obihiro, Hokkaido in the 1920's

During Akira Ifukube's childhood, the Ifukube family lived in various parts of the island of Hokkaido, including the village of Obihiro which is located on the Tokachi Plain. Because of the composer's strong childhood ties to this region, he was commissioned to write a municipal anthem for Obihiro in 1952. The end result Ifukube's Obihiro City Song.

18 years later in 1970, Ifukube would also compose music for the town of Otofuke, Hokkaido, where the composer lived between the ages of 9 and 12.
